The FCI grading system was adopted as from January 2007. RSA gradings prior to 2007 cannot be changed and those dogs cannot be radiographed under the FCI system.
All breeds can be done from the age of 12 months except in RSA where large breeds can only be x-rayed from 18 months: this includes the Mastiffs, Great Danes, Newfoundlands, Pyrenean Mountain Dogs, St Bernards and Rottweilers. Elbow dysplasia may be done at the same time.
Positioning must be optimal: to achieve this, general anesthesia or sedation is required. A single certificate, certified by a KUSA authorised veterinary radiologist, is issued reflecting the grade of hip and/or elbow dysplasia, where applicable, together with the microchip or tattoo number of the dog. For more information, visit the KUSA website at: www kusa.co.za
All imported Rottweilers under 12 months to be screened in SA once it reaches 18 months of age.
HD/ED gradings performed under 12 months (locally or abroad) are not considered valid.
HD requirements for the importation of Rottweilers / semen for breeding purposes are as follows:

are accepted: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada (OVC gradings only), England, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, Scandinavian countries, Spain, Switzerland, USA (OFA gradings only)
